Job Function

Prepare equipment and consumables for lab courses and related areas following the direction of the lab supervisor.

Essential Duties Summary


-Clean lab classrooms and prep areas
-Clean and dry lab glassware and equipment
-General maintenance and organization of the lab and prep rooms
-May assist with inventory control of items and supplies
-May assist with data input
-May assist in the nature center.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES (Depending on assignment):

-May move and unpack inventory
-Will be responsible for prepping a class
-May prepare media and use autoclave
-May assist in cadaver and preserved specimen prep
-May handle preserved specimens
-May make pH buffers, reagent solutions, acid/base solutions and unknowns
-May standardize solutions
-Will use analytical balances
-May need to understand and use molar/percent calculations
-May need to keep perishables alive

SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Reports to the Science Lab Supervisor.


Preliminary Qualifications

EDUCATION: High school graduate or GED equivalent. Must have successfully completed one semester of college level Biology or Chemistry or a course related to the assignment. Should have good general math and reading abilities. Must have successfully completed Biology 1000.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: After instruction must have an understanding of lab experiments and lab equipment, the safe use of chemicals and sterility, and be able to understand and follow all safety instructions. Must be able to work alone with minimum supervision. Must be able to lift 50 lbs if assigned. Must be reliable. Must have taken Biology 1000.

Work Hours To be determined. Work hours will be based on college work-study funding. Scheduled work hours may not conflict with class hours. Position terminates at end of semester or when award is exhausted. Hours may not exceed 30 per week.

Salary $11.2156-$14.7482 per hour (2017-18 salary range)
